Bob Larkin: Nova (2006)

Possibly coming soon to a movie theater near you in Marvel Studio’s proposed Guardians of the Galaxy film, it’s The Man Called Nova, as painted by Bob for a trading card set.

Created by writer/editor Marv Wolfman in 1976, Nova was what you got if you crossed Spider-Man with DC’s Green Lantern: down-on-his-luck teen Rich Ryder is chosen to receive superpowers from a dying alien, becomes a reluctant superhero, and then gets invited to join the Green Lantern Co—er, Nova Corps.

Based on the cover of Nova #1, Bob puts Nova through his paces in this painting, as Ryder demolishes an army of…er, space cockroaches? Whatever, they are, they’d probably rather face Nova than his unseen partner: The Man Called…Raid!
