Bob Larkin: Superman and Spider-Man (1981)

Back in the days when Marvel and DC would still talk to one another, they used to have crossover events in which their most popular characters would team-up to fight members of their respective rogues galleries. And it all began with 1976’s Superman vs. the Amazing Spider-Man (still a classic), an oversized comic that sold so well it warranted a sequel—which is where Bob comes in.

For Superman and Spider-Man, Bob was tasked with having the two heroes face off against the Fantastic Four’s #1 enemy, Doctor Doom (not really a Spidey bad guy), and one of Superman’s lamer villains, the Parasite. (Really? Wouldn’t Brainiac have made more sense?) And Bob, of course, came through spectacularly.

Looking at that image, however, I’d have to say that the biggest threat faced by the heroes was getting pushed off the cover by their gigantic logos!
