In advance of the 1981 release of the treasury-sized DC
Comics-Marvel Comics crossover “Superman and Spider-Man” (a sequel to 1976’s
“Superman vs. The Amazing Spider-Man: The Battle of the Century”), Marvel and
DC ran this house ad in their comics.
What’s really unusual about it (beyond the cartoony
painter’s hand that represents Bob, which seems to be more of a DC design
touch) is that, on a full-color page in full-color comics, they chose to
reproduce Bob’s cover painting in graytones!
